Hello, I’m Emily — a British freelance copywriter, communications consultant and independent journalist, formerly based all over the world, now firmly planted in Brighton. I work with agencies, SMEs, non-profits and large organisations across the UK and beyond, helping them clarify their messaging, craft compelling content and tell their stories authentically and effectively.

Alongside my communications and copywriting work, I’m a freelance journalist with bylines in The Guardian, The Evening Standard, Fit & Well, Cotswold Life and various other owned media and brand content sites, including Cathay Pacific.
Writing experience
I have over 15 years of professional writing experience, producing copy and content in marketing, communications and editorial roles across various sectors (fashion, travel, events, charity, higher education, tourism). Having worked in multiple countries — including Japan, Australia, Vietnam and France — I’m adept at writing for different audiences and cultures.

It all began at university where I spent three years churning out essays and penning poetry as part of an English literature degree.
After the Jane Austen discussions and poetic musings came to a end, I began my career in fashion PR, writing press releases for designers and producing content for their social media channels and fashion blogs.
Copywriting for a cause
Expanding into events marketing and creative project management roles in the charity and higher education sectors, I focused on reports, proposals, internal communications and marketing collateral, honing the skill of translating complex ideas into clear, persuasive language.
The Japan connection
For two years in Japan, I worked with Japanese, British and American organisations, most recently as lead copywriter on a government-commissioned tourism campaign, delivering web copy, promotional materials and content strategy for international audiences.

As a freelance senior copywriter and communications consultant, I help clients define their tone of voice, develop clear messaging guidelines and tell their stories in impactful ways.
I also support with SEO-friendly web copy, newsletters, award submissions, short-form creative ad copy for campaigns and long-form editorial and thought leadership content.
